BUSHABOUTOZ - Far West Coast - Eyre Peninsular

Over night at Haslam - it fizzed all night and cold!

 Aussie humour!
The signage reads
 "DOC WOODS"
Recreational Area
 Dunny at Penong road house!
Cohen Rest Area our over night camp
Yep! it's the dog fence line - very straight!

 A breach under the fence
Pulled over here for breakfast, just in case there was any passing traffic. We did no see any one for the duration
 Always one out of line!
Solar shower bag on the East side of the
fence and track, still containing water.
Marsupial - dead on the track
This is the START or END of the
Dog Fence at the Head of the Bight
Small rock recess near the end of the fence.
 Looking west along the coast
Good track and turn around near the cliffs.
Track to camp site is1km back along the fence.
DFB - looking west, as can been seen there's heap's of weed
Beach and cliff head on the east side of the fence, how ever not suitable for our camp. The access track is too tight around an 'S' bend in the sand drifts.
Op's wrong side of the fence
Gate access to the east side of the fence,
1k from the west side camp turn off site
Dog fence track on the west side of the fence, a few wash out’s hard limestone caps, corrugations but no tree issue’s. Took just on 2 hours and 30 odd k’s, to the Cliffs.

Unhooked and checked out the camp site’s east and west side of the fence 4k’s from the fence is the best behind the sand hills in a small hollow and room for 2, 3 van’s at a push.

Weather station set up and it's breezy
Weed build up at the head land, high tide pulls the weed out and west back along the beach - BUGGER!
 Found
Lucky here's not on the inside and I
whacked my hand in = Ouch!
Headland and beach sand hills, our camp just visible - right edge of photo, the white line above the cliff.
Stiff Southerly - No fishing today
Yep! we have the beach to our selves
 1st gutter maker - 600mtr's from camp
 Look out chair left behind
Oh! no, just what we don't need
2nd cutter maker, another 600mtrs from the 1st marker
Dug the rope out, but to heavy to drag
back the 3+ k's to camp
 High and dry
 Dessicated FISH!
 There is some signage
This under ground tank 200 mtrs from
camp in behind the sand hills. Found whilst
checking out FG sites
Load up some 40# braid for the BIG FISH! Ha!
The cuttle fish are BIG around here
Flipper tracks if you come across
 them out beach combing
Our camp site, it's tight but room for more at a push
Off fishing as wind dropped off to 0kph, wind chill down to 8.7 and full moon, perfect Mullaway fishing conditions – even Sue enjoyed the walk down the beach!! No fish and no hook ups on the rocks either. 2100hrs called it quits, it's cold!.

0500hrs – wind chill 2.9, 0510hrs 3.9 – coffee helps and the 10 minutes getting all the clobber on. No furred game, down the beach, light northerly = perfect, except the fish don’t know it. Flick a fly no go. 0800hrs Sue came down with hot MILO – wind chill still 8.9 when Sue left the van. Sue sat with the rod whilst I checked out the next gutter, flicking a fly along the way. Gutter full of weed but a good size hole and gutter.
How ever not taking any chances - still rugged up!
The rod bend - in action - It's called WEED FISH!
 Warming up

Wind now WSW and fizzing down the beach with gust 62.4kph.
Our camp site from the weather station.
Slight hollow protects us from the West and Southerlies.
Phone signal up the hill to the west. There is beach track access going past the Marine Parks sign. Or you can access the beach off the track going up the hill.
 Weed build up
Plenty of these along the beach and LARGE
 Sand dune ripples

Just before Sue got on the scene with a hot cuppa tea, landed a Gummy Shark – 3’+ good eating size. Hang in until 2030hrs, one mini run. Full moon and magic light breeze from the South West. Wind Chill 7 – 8
 Here's his stomach contents
Perfect - early AM fishing with an offshore breeze

 Aussie Salmon landed

Just after Sue called 0715hrs salmon on the beach,
another 2 with the biggest 6#, released the 3rd salmon
Release - only so much room in the freezer,
 space required for the Mullaway

The next 3 day perfect with offshore breeze

 Just enough room
Lime stone ridge - slow and steady

The track along side the fence
An hour and 45 minutes to the Highway, 34k's from camp

Smoky Bay dropped in to see Gary son Ben,
who taken over the oyster farm.
Water sorting machine, for on-grower's

Oyster with frill to enhance feeding
 Phillip and Stacey
Ying and Ben - Smoky Bay

Next stop Venus Bay

Friends of Len and Joy camped at the shack, down the side of the house – great we set up camp in the sun in front. Greg and Julie, interesting folks. Been helping out over the years at Mt Ive’s Station.
My prawn flies work, well on scallops any way
Gotta watch your fish as these guy's with barge there way in and oinch them. The easterlies up early every day, and the fishing very slow, mostly undersize whiting. So did not hang around long - things to do in THE SHED!
 Morning walk find!
Camper trailer water tank found on the
Telegraph Road put to good use.

THE NEXT STOP
'THE SHED'
